The movie “Today” directed by Reza Mirkarimi was officially selected as Iran’s contender at Academy Awards 2015.
Amir Esfandiari, the spokesman of the Iranian movies selection jury for introduction of movies to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, said that this jury has ultimately selected “Today” as the Iran’s contender at 88th Academy Awards after a thorough review and discussion over the nominees.
He said: “In the final session, after discussions about ten nominees admitted to this stage for more reviews, which had been on screen for at least one week since 1st Oct 2013 to 30th Sep 2014 based on the countries regulations, the jury discussed mostly over two movies: “Today” as a movie directed by a notable director of the middle generation which had a remarkable feedbacks in its inaugural display at Toronto film festival(after its successful display in Iran); and the movie “Tanhaie tanhaie tanha” as a movie stemmed from the new generation of filmmakers which has courageously conveyed the message of equity and peace to the whole world.
Ultimately the jury elected “Today” among all nominees for introduction to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences after considering all aspects of the issue.
The members of this jury includes: Habib( author and university teacher), Ahmad Amini(Director), Arash Ahmadzadeh Amini( the manager of the international affairs of the Iranian Organization of Cinema and Audiovisual Affairs), Amin Tarokh( Actor and cinema mentor), Iraj( international vice president of international departmenrt of Cinema Foundation), Taghipour(Producer), Amir Esfandiary(Farabi), Parviz Sheykhtadi(Director and Screenwriter), mohamadbagher Ghahremani( University teacher) and Majid Mirfakhrai( Artistic manager).
“Today” was selected among its Rivals as: “ Azar, Shahdokht, Parviz, and others”, “Snow”, “Tanhaie Tanhaie Tanha”, “Che”, “Khaste Nabashi”, “Khate Vijeh”, “Married Life of Mr Mahmoodi and His Wife”, “Sarbemohr”.
